Facebook & happiness
Does Facebook hinder or enhance friendships?
It’s easy to lament the negative influence of Facebook. Especially so if you are in the older demographic and don’t have a real appreciation of how it works. The biggest complaint is that it has replaced face-to-face and even phone-to-phone friendships and therefore has an adverse effect on relationships. Speak to heavy users – the younger demographics – and, for the most part, the contrary appears to be true.
The Happiness Imperative (and why Facebook is to blame)
Reading the Facebook updates of Teens (and those older for that matter) it would be fair to conclude that everyone is constantly happy, busy and surrounded by friends. That life is just one big party. If you don’t have an exhausting social life, and photos to prove so, you must be the odd one out. The pressure is on to be always busy, active and constantly happy – or at least appear to be.
